PRIZM의 첫 개관 전시회이자 RVCA에서 제공하는 Barry McGee & Phil Frost 의 전시회가 열였다. 이번 전시회에서 두 아티스트는 그래피티, 패인팅, 조각상, 설치미술, 대규모 인터랙티브 장치 등 다양한 방식으로 자신들의 감성을 뿜어냈다. 이번 전시회의 큐레이터는 RVCA 창립자 P.M. Tenore이 맡았으며, 2010년 2월 10일까지 진행 될 예정이라고 한다. 이런 전시회가 아직 서울에서는 보기 드물다. 내가 미국에 간다면 여러 전시회를 다닐 수 있을 것 같아 여가 생활이 참 유익할 것 같다는 생각이 든다.

프리미어급 아티스트 Cream, So-Me, 2Shy가 참여한 트리플 트러플 전시회가 올해 진행될 예정이다. 이 아트쇼는 파리에 있는 래이지 독 갤러리에서 9월 3일 부터 9월 19일까지 진행 할 예정이라고 한다. 그림자체도 멋지고 일단 색감이 좋은것같다. 가고싶지만 파리이고, 요새는 날라다니는 파리도 극히 드믈다.

다음달 호세팔라를 비롯하여 홍콩의 오오아이 보토스 갤러리 주최로 유명한 미국 아티스트의 작품들을 전시한다. "Reading Through Seeing" 전시회는 호세팔라의 트레이드마크인 다양한 재질감, 겹겹이 칠한 미학을 표현한 작품 중 가장 컬러풀한 것들을 기초로 전시한다. 최근 일본 여행기와 전통일본방식으로 통해 자신의 방식으로 제작한 도자기도 보여준다. 이 전시회는 5월 14일부터 6월 11일까지 오오아이 보토스 갤러리에서 전시한다.

레고를 가지고 패션에 접목한 것으로 센세이션을 일으켰던 이름외우기가 웬만한 영어단어 외우는 것보다 어려운 개척적인 패션 디자이너 Jean Charles de Castelbajac(장-샤를 드 까스텔바작)이 런던 파라다이스 로우 갤러리에서 그의 첫 개인 전시회 "Triumph of the Sign : 기호의 승리" 를 통해 그의 경향을 보여준다. 장-샤를 드 까스텔바작은  "Triumph of the Sign : 기호의 승리"에서 순수예술 과 소비문화 사이, 좀 더 면밀하게 말하면 브랜드 로고와 같은 현대의 비주얼컬쳐의 제한적인 요소로 그것들 사이에 긴장감 과 협력작용을 노골적으로 그의 매혹적인 작품들로 하여금 나타낸다. 장-샤를 드 까스텔바작은 대작 서양화들을 완벽히 모작하는 중국 화가에게 위탁했는데 이러한 과정은 대중 소비자 물품의 생산량을 반영한다.브론치노부터 마네 작품까지 그리고 또 다른 화가 작품들 까지도 복제된 대작 위에 로고들을 덧칠했다.그의 최종작품들은 반어적으로 계급사회의 조롱, 고귀함의 붕괴, 내용의 탈피을 포함한다.

Over the holiday weekend, Pres Rodriguez curated a one-of-a-kind charity bake sale art exhibition in Miami. The show featured over 20 of Miami’s top artists including: Jim Drain, Michael Genovese, Jason Hedges, Nick D. Lobo, Justin Long, Hugo Montoya, Jonathan Thomas and Kyle Trowbridge amongst others. The show was a success beyond anyone’s expectations, raising over $10,000 for charity and providing the feel-good moment of the year for Miami, amidst this crazy recession. Its main room was transformed into a giant Krispy Kreme donut with over 1,000 sprinkles on the pink “frosting” walls. Bert Rodriguez, a Miami based 2008 Whitney Biennial artist, alongside Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova contributed a double toilet seat server which had people eating chocolate pudding and rice pudding out of the bowls. Debuting on March 12th, Better History at the American Standard Gallery presented a large-scale New York-centric exhibition revolving around various emerging and established names. Despite coming from different generations, the artists each share a common platform for art which inevitably grow and forward the local art movement. For a full list of participants, check here. With the help of O.H.W.O.W., the Claire Distenfeld and 7ELEVEN Gallery produced show also includes curation by Nick Poe. The exhibit wraps up on April 11th.
